ADVENT is the beginning of the church year for us at Christ Lutheran. The Advent season begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas, which in 2019 is December 1. The focus of this time is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in his First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent.
Scripture readings during Advent reflect themes of hope of eternal life, as well as accountability for our faithfulness. We recall the first coming of Christ as an infant. And we look forward to his Second Coming. But there is also a more personal Advent coming – the presence of Christ in our hearts in the here-and-now of grace-filled moments.
Practices associated with Advent include keeping an Advent calendar, lighting an Advent wreath, reading an Advent daily devotional and putting up decorations and a Christmas tree.
